Algebra will be so fun if its beginning is with fun.
Algebra Game
Ask students this question:
Step 1
I guessed a number, that if multiplied by 3 and then 10 added to it, the result becomes 46.
Without a gap of even two seconds, they will answer it with 12.
Step 2
Now ask them to write this question in languages they know i.e, Arabic, English, Urdu as well Malayalam.
Let them some time to have tried to translate it.
Step 3
After they having felt some risk to do this, come to help them with a new language - not name it- and do as follow:
1. Write on board: "I guessed a number, that if multiplied by 3 and then 10 added to it, the result becomes 46."
Tell them I am introducing a new language which is simple to write and fun to express.
2. Remove "I guessed a" from black board.
3. Draw a box in the space of "number" after deleting it.
4. Remove "that if " from black board.
5. Write sign (X) in space of "multiplied by"
6. Leave 3 as it is
7. Remove "and then" from black board.
8. Write sign (+) in space of "added"
9. Remove "to it,"
10. write the sign (=) in space of "the result becomes"
11. Leave 46 as it is.
After some time, change the box in the space of number and write a student's name in that space.
After some time decrease the name into first spelling in his name.
Step 4
Now tell students to find out such questions and translate it to the new simple language.
Last name this language with a fun name, later to "Algebra"
