Integers Std 2

Number line game

Step 1
Divide the students into two groups, namely Side A and Side B. Prepare a piece of white paper written on one side sign of (+) and on other side sign of (-). Draw a number line starting from 0 to 15 on black board. Mark number 5 on number line and tell students that both sides are at fifth step.

Step 2
Now select one student from Side A and ask to tell a number less than 10, say 3. Then from Side B, ask one student to toss the paper. If it occur (+), then Side A got 3 plus points. Mark them at 8th step. Now its the Side B's turn. Proceed it.

Note: while the number decreasing towards zero, it's possibly they would be stuck if a 4 points got as minus while they are at 2 in number line.

Step 3
Now, it's the point to teach them what is the need of negative numbers. Ask them what they should do? Let them a few minutes to come across an idea. They often would find a solution, having some numbers behind the zero also. Now tell them mark the numbers off the zero and so with a sign of (-).

Step 4
Continue the game to some while.
